We decided to venture out to the grocery store today which was fairly easy.  There are free shuttles from the hotel and hospital several times throughout the day to various stops.  We went to Gebze Center which is a huge shopping mall that happens to have a grocery store in it.  It also has a car dealership, a go-cart track, a bowling alley, an ice rink and kids rides.  There was a McDonalds, KFC, Sbarro, and of course local Turkish restaurants.  We ate at a local place but I have no idea what it was called.  We ordered what looked like a football shaped cheese pizza.  John's had meat and some vegetables on it.  We feel quite silly taking all of these pictures of different things especially in restaurants where we are unmistakably silly tourists and people laugh at us.  It didn't help when John tried to shake a wet nap onto his food bc he thought it was seasoning.  The girls behind the counter had a field day.
The mall was very modern with everything from juice bars to home improvement stores.  The grocery store is called Kipa and it is like a small Walmart.  We picked up very reasonable fresh fruit, veggies, rice, bread, salmon, and even some cooking utensils.  There are no pots, pans, plates, silverware etc in the rooms even though there is small kitchen so if you plan to cook a little  you may want to either bring stuff or buy it here reasonably

If it looks like Home Depot and Smells Home Depot...?

Forgot to take a picture of what this is called..sorry
